
The Subclass 190 Visa is a points-tested permanent visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory. It allows you to live and work in Australia permanently.
Here’s a quick guide to the eligibility criteria:
✅ 1. Apply from Inside or Outside Australia
If applying from within Australia, you must hold:
- A Substantive Visa,
- Bridging Visa A, B, or C, or
- A 491 or 494 Visa (held for at least 3 years).
✅ 2. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
Apply through SkillSelect and wait for a state or territory nomination before being invited to apply.
✅ 3. State/Territory Nomination
You must be nominated by a state or territory government. Each has its own requirements, so check with them directly.
✅ 4. Skills Assessment
You need a positive skills assessment from an authorised assessing body (e.g., VETASSESS, CPA, TRA) at the time of invitation.
✅ 5. Be Under 45
You must be under 45 when you’re invited to apply (you can apply if you turn 45 afterward).
✅ 6. Score at Least 65 Points
Points are awarded for age, qualifications, work experience, English, and more.
State nomination adds 5 points to your total.
✅ 7. Meet English Language Requirements
Competent English is required — IELTS score of 6.0 in all four components (or equivalent).
✅ 8. Occupation List
Your occupation must be on the relevant Skilled Occupation List for the 190 Visa and accepted by the nominating state.
✅ 9. Health and Character
You must pass health checks and meet character requirements.
